Benefits of an SLA Membership

Thinking about renewing your SLA membership or have a friend thinking of joining?

Staying ahead of the learning curve is a necessity in today’s information and knowledge economy. SLA is your source for professional development opportunities that will help you get and stay ahead.

SLA Toronto was founded in 1940 and represents the interests of information professionals in Toronto and most of the province of Ontario, west of Kingston. The Toronto Chapter is a dynamic and active organization with over 200 members and is part of SLA, an international organization headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia.

Member benefits include:

Membership Referrals

When you invite your fellow information professionals to join SLA and they become members, everyone wins! By referring at least three new members to SLA, you’ll receive a 20 percent discount on the early bird rate to the SLA 2018 Annual Conference in Baltimore. SLA will benefit from a stronger community, and the new members will be eligible to win a $150 gift card!

An additional bonus! SLA Members receive 10% off their Certificate in Canadian Copyright Law!

The Certificate in Canadian Copyright Law is designed for Canadians at all organizational levels who want to gain a better understanding of Canadian and global copyright law and to apply that knowledge on a day-to-day basis. Register now to join us and earn your Certificate in Canadian Copyright Law in 2018.

The CCCL serves as a useful education and refresher, and an opportunity to become part of an exclusive community of Canadian copyright leaders. Specifically, author and lawyer Lesley Ellen Harris will work with you to:

  • develop your breadth of knowledge of copyright issues in Canada and around the world;
  • lower the risk of copyright infringement in your organization;
  • increase your knowledge on when and how to obtain copyright permissions;
  • improve your ability to provide quick answers about Canadian copyright law;
  • develop best practices for lowering copyright risks;
  • provide you with tools to demonstrate leadership in your copyright role; and
  • provide an online forum for you to network with other copyright professionals.

Please contact Kathryn Kingston, Membership Director, at membership@toronto.sla.org for your discount code.
