Building a Professional Development Plan – Nov. 15, 2018

Building a Professional Development Plan – Nov. 15, 2018

SLA Toronto invites early and seasoned professionals to join us in an interactive workshop to develop a personal professional development plan (PD) led by Joan Rataic-Lang, Executive Director of the library of the Toronto Lawyers Association.

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry said, “A goal without a plan is just a wish.” Becoming a library leader without a professional development (PD) plan is like that wish, we may want it, but are not sure how to achieve it.

Learning goals:

  • Understand a PD
  • Identify benefits of a PD
  • Process of creating a PD

Attendees will be asked to think about their goals, discuss completing a personal assessment, encouraged to determine their skills and competencies, as well as areas for improvement and growth. There will be brainstorming about how do we develop the skills that we are missing and what non-traditional opportunities exist to develop skills. And finally, how to be accountable to yourself?

Pre-work: please complete the Myers-Briggs assessment at www.16personalities.com. It is free and takes less than 12 minutes.

Registration is limited. A small group will allow the session to be interactive, please come prepared to share.

Time: 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM

Location: 361 University Avenue | Toronto, ON M5G 1T3

Cost: $5 Student/Unwaged | $10 SLA Members | $20 Non-members

Doors open at 6:00 PM on the day.

If you have any questions, please contact Devin New at devin.new7@gmail.com.
