Have you ever had to try and figure out how to collect data for assessment after a project has launched? Have you ever collected data for assessment and realized that it doesn’t really answer your questions? Have you ever wondered what else you might use your assessment data for in your work?

Creating a comprehensive assessment plan can be an overwhelming task. Whether you are new to this type of work or a seasoned professional looking to improve your process – this webinar discusses several models that will help you build comprehensive and flexible assessment plans.

Our goals for attendees:

  • Understand the thought processes behind developing a comprehensive assessment plan.
  • Understand how logic models contribute to systematically developing an assessment plan.
  • How to use logic models and assessment methods to build in flexibility and future potential into your assessment plan.

 

About the Speakers

Mary Gu is the Information Services Librarian with CPA Canada, the national level non-profit supporting the Canadian accountancy profession. She was previously the Archives and Records Management Project Coordinator with CPA Canada. Mary started learning about assessment and measurement during her undergraduate in psychology and has applied her knowledge to a variety of projects in the library world.

Hannah Loshak is the Information Manager with the Centre for Effective Practice. In this role, Hannah provides research and resource development services on a variety of projects in the health care sector. Hannah applies her knowledge of creating comprehensive assessment plans to help develop health care tools and clinical guidelines in projects with multiple stakeholders.

Ulla de Stricker with SLA Toronto is offering private consultations on your cover letter and resume. Ulla has provided many librarian and information professionals with career insights and advice over the years. She is a veteran of this industry and currently runs her own consulting business.

JUST YOU IN THE ROOM WITH A CAREER EXPERT

This is your opportunity to get personalized advice on how to polish two documents that – though they are brief – will determine the direction of your professional life. This event is free to all iSchool students regardless of SLA membership and it is open to SLA members who are no longer students for a nominal charge.

On Tuesday February 6, Ulla de Stricker will be available for 30-minute personal sessions to work individually with students and SLA members wishing to perfect their resumes and cover letters:

  1. Sign up by January 26 for a 30-minute time slot on February 6.
  2. You will be sent a form to indicate your availability closer to Jan. 26. You will be assigned a 30-min time slot.
  3. You will receive the background materials on resumes and cover letters so that you may draft your documents accordingly.
  4. Submit your documents with a brief narrative about your specific situation to Ulla at ulla@destricker.com by February 1.
  5. You and Ulla meet at a private office area in the iSchool to go over your documents in detail.

2017 was Blockchain’s coming out party by becoming a mainstream topic of conversation, but do librarians and other information professionals need to know about it? This session will introduce Blockchain technology and its implications on smart contracts. You will have the opportunity to learn about how applications using these technologies will change the way we purchase and share content, track records, exchange metadata, and establish provenance in creative works – all of which has profound implications on our industry.

During this session, you can expect:

  • An introduction to Blockchain with a hands-on activity: What is this technology that everyone’s talking about and how does it work?
  • An introduction to smart contracts and how they work
  • How Blockchain technology can impact the field of library and information science
  • See the Blockchain in action with a demonstration of our proof of concept

About the speaker

Stephen (MLIS) is a Design Researcher for Narritiv, an innovation lab created by Access Copyright. After spending 10 years working as an Information Specialist, he spent 2017 researching, speaking about, and helping build apps using Blockchain technology. Stephen is passionate about creating digital solutions for artistic creators while improving experiences for content consumers.

SLA Toronto’s First Five Years team is excited to connect students with the special libraries professional community! Do you want exposure to a variety of special libraries professionals? Are you unsure of what kinds of environments you could potentially find yourself working in post-degree? This event is your opportunity to meet new people and ask some questions.

 

This is a structured speed networking event where 15 special libraries professionals will be ready to take your questions or just have a chat. The structured speed networking will consist of 7 minutes per person over the span of 1 hour with 20 minutes afterwards for unstructured networking and chatter.

 

You can prepare questions ahead of time and we will also send you some suggested questions to open up the conversations!
